Frenchie Fly Pattern
The Frenchie fly is a pattern I find myself tying on again and again. I use it as a dropper on a dry/dropper rig, under an indicator, and on my ESN setup.
The Frenchie nymph represents mayflies, but can also work as a caddisfly or stonefly if you tie them in bigger sizes. I tie most of mine in sizes 16 and 14 for the Sierra Nevada waters.
It’s simply a pheasant tail nymph with a collar of Ice Dub (usually pink) and weighted with slotted tungsten beads in different sizes depending on the depth and speed of water you’re fishing.
I tie them in many different styles, some with Krystal Flash tails, some with black beads, and some with oversized beads and a pink tag. You can use different materials such as pheasant tail, Krystal Flash, CDL for tails and you can get creative with colors for the collar.
Below are some videos I did for the Oregon Fly Fishing Blog. Tie some up and Enjoy!
