Griffith’s Gnat
In this video, Greg ties a guides variation of the popular Griffith’s Gnat fly pattern.
Named for one of the founders of Trout Unlimited George Griffith, this fly represents clusters of mating midges and is often fished as a dry fly.
Don’t be afraid to skate them across the riffles in the summer months and dead drift them in the slower water.
An easy fly pattern to tie, but so effective for trout on the Tuolumne and Merced rivers and their tributaries.
Greg ties them in size 16 and 18 using Tiemco 100 dry fly hooks.
